Bible Question:
an acquaintance says she does not believe in God because the gospels were a dream by men, and she scoffs at the truth. I printed for her the following scriptures, 2 Peter 1:16 Galatians 1:11-17 John 1:14 1 John 1:1 Can someone help me in trying to convince her that she is misled? |
Bible Answer: Dear Timothy, I'm not sure quoting scripture will get you far with someone who doesn't acknowledge them as the truth. Sometimes asking her questions about life as in does she think that there is a right from wrong? If she agrees that murder or other obvious "sins" are wrong, ask her why-- who established right from wrong. If you can get her analizing why she believes what she does, you get her to seek the answers. I'm not a pro at this style of witnessing, but I find sources like the "Case for Christ" and the "Case for Faith" by Lee Strobel to be good resources. He writes from a perspective of a skeptic and asks many of the tough questions people ask. He searches out the answers from many respected people across the country and essentially "proves" through reasoning that the Bible and Christ are real. After listening to his arguments from both sides he comes off that the more logical outcome is to actually believe. Other types of appologetic works that support the truth of the Bible and the facts that are proven in History would be helpful. I think the fact that the resurrection of Christ was first witnessed by women (the last thing you would report if you were trying to start a movement). Also the number of disciples and followers that willingly died for something they believed in and not in a mass suicide kind of thing, but through the ages. People will not die for a lie. There are many other arguments that you can make to get her thinking. The bottom line is share the info in love and even if met with resistance, be Christ like. She will be amazed more sometime by how you live out what you believe than the information that you share. Then, it is in God's hands. My prayers are with you. Tealead |
