Bible Question: I would like to know about luke the 14 to the the 28 verses jesus is healing and how does this affect the people around him. |
Bible Answer: Hi 3sunshine, I'm guessing that you are considering Luke 11:14-28. If not, to bad, that's what I will talk about.:) Jesus here is casting out a demon by the "finger of God" as He explained later, verse 20. But some said that He cast it out by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons. Compare Luke 11:20 with Matthew 12:28, "But if I cast out demons by the *spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." In Luke it says finger and in Matthew it says Spirit [spirit]. Jesus says that He casts out demons by a holy spirit not by one of the Devil's. And He says the kingdom of God has come upon you; come learn of Me and join Me, follow Me. If the person has a new beginning, has his demons cast from him, and does not fill his life with the things of God and learn from His word, then his state will become worse than at first. How did it affect the people around Him? They said in a sense, "What a wonderful man you are; your mother must be proud of you and your spirituality." But I can see this Man saying in verse 28 these words, "But He said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and observe it." In other words, hear the word of the Spirit and do it. Verse 23, "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters." Matthew 7:20-23, "So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord', will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. So the people had been demanding a sign from heaven but Jesus knew their thoughts. The only sign that would be given would be He Himself as the Son of Man. Jesus also asked, "By whom do your sons cast out demons?", verse 19. Matthew 7:22, "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock." Not only do our houses have to be cleaned up, but we have to build them on the foundation of the word of God, fill them with the holy things of God, and show forth some light as witnesses.
