Bible Question:
Help me to undertand please! Jesus said in verse twenty-eight, "All Sins", and 'Blasphemies' In verse twenty-nine he says, "but is in danger of eternal damnation", (29)"But he who shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness" Does this not mean that I 'CAN' ask for forgiveness so I won't be in danger of eternal damnation? Is there an emphasis on, 'BUT' in vers 29? And does not, "Hath Never forgiveness" mean that you haven't repented? In Christ, John Ryals |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Mark 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin 30 because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." ... God's day to you, John, Jesus had the Holy Spirit (Matt 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32). By saying the Holy Spirit was an unclean spirit was blaspheme or slander. Blaspheme is from two Greek words blapto and pheme ... meaning bad report. In Matthew's account on blaspheme (12:22-37) we read in verse 24, 'But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons." Jesus said their sin was not against Him, but the Holy Spirit. So, I gather that if you give a bad report about the Holy Spirit ... maybe even saying that giving credit for something He did to someone else, you will not be forgiven, ever. Searcher |
