Bible Question (short): Numbers 3,14 and 40

Question (full): The book of Mathew, alongside other books, talks of numbers that seem significant. In mathew 1:17,he says there were 14 generations.Elsewhere, the number 3 is significant and so is the number 40-Jesus fasting 40 days and 40 nights etc.Could you kindly explain the significance of numbers 3,14 and 40 for starters?
