Bible Question: What is the meaning of Beatitude (matthew 5:1-11) |
Bible Answer: I do not have a specific doctrinal or theological answer for you, but as I lead children the best answer I can give them is this. The BEE- Attitudes are a sermon gave to his followers to show them how to act and behave. If you are my disciples, then this will be your identifying marks- you will be poor in spirit-not self-degrading, but realizing that you are human and all you accomplish is because of Jesus Christ. If you mourn over death and sin, you will be comforted because you will feel as I feel. The term -Beatitude- I believe is an English term ascribed to these particular verses when it was translated in 1611. I cannot find that info right now. Bible College was 25 years ago this year. The Beatitudes are when we begin to experience the same things that Christ experienced and feel the pain that He felt when church leaders fall. Christians fall, marriages fall apart for no apparent reason except for selfishness and sin regardless of the cost to children, spouses, ministries, etc. He grieves, He mourns. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, (Phil 2:5) This entire chapter expands the meaning of the beatitudes. I hope this helps at least a little. Be blessed my friend.
