Bible Question:
How does a proverbs 31 women apply to year 2000? I have a diffult problem understanding this passage. |
Bible Answer: The proverb is going to be circumstantial. The description given in Prov 31 is the "ideal" woman of that time period. It described a good home-maker, hard worker, able mother, virtuous, etc. Tell me what the "ideal" woman of this age is. Many of these principles may still apply depending on your social circle. Certainly you are not expected in this modern day to be an able weaver. Virtuous, yes. Hard-working (either at a job or in the home, again as your social circle expects), loved by her children, modest, wise in word, of good reputation. Again, what is the ideal woman of this age? Answer this question and you will understand the woman of Solomon's wisdom. My wife minds the children, works a job, cleans the house, tends to my every want, need, or desire, does the laundry, is faithful, is kind, is loving ... and no matter how hard I try to help her, she refuses to let me. (I do actually try to take a fair share of the burdens, but she'll do things like turn off the water when I'm trying to do dishes). To me, she is every inch the woman of the Proverb. She's everything to me. |
