Bible Question:
Last fall I have given myself over to our Lord Jesus Christ again. This time I am going to do more studying of the Bible. I have recently found out about the Inductive study method and I am very interested in it. I have both how to study guide and the bible by Kay Arthur. I am starting with the book of Matthew. So far, I am confused on this one little detail. In the intro part of the book, it says "Mark in a distinctive way each occurence of a dividing phrase in Matt 7:28; 11:1; 13:53; 19:1 and 26:1. Also, all who is doing the inductive method, do you place any marking on 1:1-27 ? I appreciate for the help. Michelle |
Bible Answer: Michelle, Matthew is divided into five sections, each of which has a narrative and a discourse by Jesus. There is also an introduction (the infancy narrative Matt 1:1 -2:23) and a conclusion (Passion and Resurrection Matt 26:1-28:20). The five verse you asked about mark the end of the five discourses in the structure of Matthew. I hope this is of help. The only thing I see at Matt 1:27 is the shift from the manifestation of the Messiah to the Jews to the manifestation of the Messiah to the Gentiles. Emmaus |
