Subject: What does "the kingdom of God is at hand |
Bible Note: Gen 17:6 "I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. Gen 17:7 "I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. Gen 17:8 "I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." It looks clear to me here, when God made the covenant with Abraham, that he is speaking of a plural of people, meaning all his descendants. Also, it may just be a matter of oppinnion but "and to your and your seed" reads plural to me. In the dictionary seed is actually listed as "Noun, Plural; seeds or seed," meaning that seed can be plural. If someone were to walk up to you and say "I give this to you and your seed..." you wouldn't ask "Well which of my kids do you mean?" It would be understood that the person meant your descendants. Earlier in Genisis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself. -- I'm sure that there wasn't just one Herb Yeilding seed in reference here.
