Bible Question: I am working on a geneology of the Bible. I have gotten to Joshua and am confused. I am looking at 1 Chronicles 7:20-26, but I can't make sense of it. Especially the parts beginning at Ezer and Elead and ending with Sheerah. I can't figure out who they are. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! |
Bible Answer: Greetings Crystalight, Here is a bit of commentary on 1 Chronicles 7:20-26... "7:20-29 The source for part of the genealogy of Ephraim is Num. 26:35. If Rephah (v.25) is the grandson of Ephraim, ten generations are recorded from Ephraim to Joshua, a number that fits very well the 400-year interval when Israel was in Egypt. Joshua's Ephraimite ancestry is also mentioned in Num. 13:8 (where he is called "Hoshea"; see Num. 13:16). The raid against Gath (vv. 21-22) must have taken place well before the conquest of Canaan and must have originated in Egypt. The list of settlements (vv. 28-29) summarizes Josh 16-17." (1) "7:21,22 The men of Gath were probably the pre-conquest Philistines (see Gen. 21:32,34; Ex. 13:17). Since the story involves Ephraim's sons in particular and not just the tribe of Ephraim, this verse establishes that Jacob's family before the Exodus had not completely lost contact with the land of Canaan." (2) I hope that this helps!
