Subject: gates being left open the prophecy? |
Bible Note: Are you studying Daniel? I suspect you are hence the questions about Babylon. Since your asking about gates being open I suspect your question is in reference to Medo-Persian conquest of the great city. We see Daniel prophesize this in Daniel 5 and we are told that very night it came to past. History records that there was a great wall built around the city of Babylon through which the river Euphrates ran diagonally through the city, past through the city wall in the western section of the north wall and exiting the city to the south east. Cyrus saw the river went through a swamp before entering the city so while his men were stationed on the south side of the city some of his troops diverted the river in the swamp and as the river level fell they walked through Since most of the city was at the part the King was throwing and since from all appearances the Medo-persian army was camping to the south so no one noticed. History records the Medo Persian soldiers were able to unlatch and open the main gates of the city before anyone noticed and Cyrus and his troops entered leaving Babylon little choice but to surrender. If you are studying Daniel may I suggest you read a book or two. Dr David Jeremiah wrote an interesting book called “The Handwriting on the Wall” published by Word Publishing. Also you might check some commentaries on the subject. |
