Bible Question: what is the thrust of Isaiah's message and where was he duriong the post-exile period? |
Bible Answer: Concerning the latter half of your question; Many scholars believe that Isaiah is composed of three sets of prophecy (and nearly all believe there were at least 2). If you look carfully at the book, you can see a definite distinction between sets of prophecy; pre-exilic, exilic, and post, corresponding to 1st Isaiah, 2nd Isaiah, and possible a 3rd Isaiah. So... if this answers your question, Isaiah most likely was deceased by the post-exilic period when Isaiah 44 (?)and onwards was written. I hope this helps a bit :) oh.. .and because of the three time frames for the prophecies, you can also find three different focuses for the message.. although I personally feel that it is a calling to turn to God (which I know, is general, and really is the thrust of the whole bible) God Bless |
