Bible Question: what does the book "song of solomon" means? is it referring to a woman and her lover or is a metaphor, referring to god and the church? or to the relationship that we have with God? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Wwshngtn2000, Some interpret the Song of Solomon to be an historical record of the romance between Solomon and a Shulammite woman. Within this book, the rightful place of physical love, within marriage only, is clearly established and honored. The reason that this book is included within Scripture is mostly due to the long held view that this book is an allegory of the love relationship between God and Israel, or between Christ and the church, even though it does use very descriptive language, obviously of an amorous relationship.
