Bible Question: What exactly is Song of Solomon talking about? I know that "Lover" is a man; "Beloved" is a woman and "Friends" are other people. But what is going on? |
Bible Answer: Greetings, In addition to what Jesusman wrote it is interesting to note that the Jews read this book at the Passover feast. They believe that it is an allegory of the love relationship between God and Israel. This book is said to have more interpretations than any other book of the bible. They are: 1) Linked chain of lyrics depicting love in all its spontaneity, beauty, power, and exclusiveness -- experienced in its varied moments of seperation and intimacy, anguish and ectasy, tension and contentment. (Pr 5:15-20; 6:24-29, 7:6-23) 2) Triumph of a maiden's pure love for her shepherd lover over Solomon who sought to win her for his royal harem 3) Solomon visits her in the disguise of a shepherd and wins her love, He then comes in all his royal splender and asks her to leave Lebanon and become his queen. 4) An allegory as mentioned above 5) An allegory of the love relationship between Christ and the church, although the NT nowhere quotes from or alludes to the song (except perhaps Eph 5:31-32) prayon |
