Subject: rightfully dividing the word of truth |
Bible Note: Hi, sog... The proper genre classification of Ecclesiastes is wisdom literature. The kind of distinction you are trying to make regarding kinds of lying is called, in ethics, teleological. It looks to justify a behavior by the end it achieves. Niccolo Machiavelli uniquely influenced this line of thinking in the 15th century. In Christian orthodoxy, ethical teleology has been pretty well eschewed, because it contravenes the nature and character of holiness and righteousness. In more modern venues, this kind of thinking has been embraced by liberal Christians, and has become foundational to postmodern thinking. Interesting how the more one moves away from the text itself, the more muddled things become. What say we shift back to our study of the Bible itself? In Him, Doc |
