AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Kings 9:29 ¶ In the eleventh year of Joram, the son of Ahab, Ahaziah became king over Judah. |
Bible Question:
2 Kings 9:29 says Ahaziah became king in the 11th year of Joram. 2 Kings 8:25 says it happened in the 12th year of Joram. Which was it? |
Bible Answer: The 2 Kings 9:29 passage says (in the NASB) that he became king in the 11th year of Joram. The 2 Kings 8:25 says he "began to rule" in the 12th year. There is a difference in time here - just like our US Presidents are elected in one year but don't "begin their term" till the next. I would guess that there was some period of time between when the king "became" king by title and the time he actually began to rule. It could also be that he became king right at the end of a year and began to rule the next day or week which was the next year. |
