AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Kings 5:17 Naaman said, "If not, then please, let your servant be given a load of earth for a team of mules; for [from this day on] your servant will no longer offer a burnt offering nor a sacrifice to other gods, but only to the LORD, [the God of Israel]. |
Bible Question:
There is a NT passage that refers to a new convert to Christ who is a soldier or servant of a king. One of his duties was to help his king kneel down before his god. I think the new convert took some of the soil back to his home town and asked (probably Peter or Paul I think) for God's forgiveness for kneeling before an idol with his king. Does anyone know the passage please? Cheers KatieK |
Bible Answer: Then Naaman said, "All right, but please allow me to load two of my mules with earth from this place, and I will take it back home with me. From now on I will never again offer any burnt offerings or sacrifices to any other god except the LORD." 2 Kings 5:17 (NLT) - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2 Kings 5 15Then Naaman and his entire party went back to find the man of God. They stood before him, and Naaman said, "I know at last that there is no God in all the world except in Israel..." 17Then Naaman said, "All right, but please allow me to load two of my mules with earth from this place, and I will take it back home with me. From now on I will never again offer any burnt offerings or sacrifices to any other god except the LORD. 18However, may the LORD pardon me in this one thing. When my master the king goes into the temple of the god Rimmon to worship there and leans on my arm, may the LORD pardon me when I bow, too." 19"Go in peace," Elisha said. So Naaman started home again. (2 Kings 5:15, 17-19 :: New Living Translation (NLT)) "Naaman was not asking for permission to worship the god Rimmon, but to do his civil duty, helping the king get down and up as he bowed" (Life Application Study Bible, Tyndale House, 1996). |
