Bible Question:
After reading the account of Ahaz in this chapter I am struck by the audacity of Ahaz to make an altar of worship apart from the Lord's direction and specifications. (Read on, he does other things as well!) I'm wondering how much we have imported from the "world of our own ideas" into worship of the Lord? Anyone care to comment on this chapter with respect to the Church today? |
Bible Answer: How familiar does this sound: 2Kings16:7 So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son; come up and deliver me from the hand of the king of Aram and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me." 16:8 Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent a present to the king of Assyria.(NASB) How many times today do we compromise our biblical principles so we don't sound "mean" or "intolerant". And how often do we affiliate ourselves with the unholy just so we can make our point, no matter how trivial it is? |
