Bible Question:
Hello, Thanks for your anwser, and I agree with your other examples. I guess the thing I found strange was the frequent mention of musical instruments in the Old Testament and the complete absence of them in the the New. Why would this be? Some have said because the New Church was too poor to afford instruments. I'm not sure I buy that. Pardon me from continuing to harp on this subject.. no pun intended. Any other thoughts? |
Bible Answer: Attempted answer.......................... Dalprad, You have one side that states in worship we should use everything possible to praise God in every way. The instrumentation in the Psalms are used especially to back this position. You have the other side that states in worship we should put away all material trappings. The reasoning is that God had Israel use these things because they were His earthly people and Christians are His heavenly people ("our citizenship is in heaven", "set your mind on things above", etc.). So we should not have instrumentation. There's more to each side. That was just a quick look. What I go to is Eph 5:19 and Col 3:16 which tells of using pslams, hymns, and spiritual songs to teach, encourage, and worship. If I remember correctly (somebody stop me if I'm off), the intent behind these words was to have (or allow for)instrumental accompaniment. Steve |
