Bible Question: WHY did David write the Book of Psalm ? |
Bible Answer: Hi DJslice, The Book of Psalms was not written by David, although many psalms (songs) were. David, Asaph, Moses, Ethan, Solomon, and other unknown writers all contributed to the Psalms. These were songs and poetry written throughout the history of Israel and Judah, from the second king, David, to the exile in Babyon (137). Even before the nation, there is one by Moses (90). Some believe that Ezra collected the Psalms together into one book following the Babylonian captivity, as he worked to rebuild Israel, and especially to restore the worship and obedience to God. But towards the question, why were they written? Anytime we ask why God did such and such, we can generally only wonder, but this little collection of songs and poems has powerfully ministered to millions though the centuries, touching the hearts of Gods children at times when nothing else does. I think the Psalms are Gods love for us, set to music. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
