Bible Question: the event in the book of esther and that of henemiah which one came before the other? can I an introduction to the book of nehemiah as I want to start a study of the book? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Musah, According to the notes in my Ryrie Study Bible, the events of the book of Esther cover a 10-year period (483-473) of the reign of Xerxes I (486-465), which happen between the events recorded in the 6th and 7th chapters of Ezra. Although the author of Esther is uncertain, the date of the actual transcription of the book is around 465 B.C. (remember, you have to go backwards for B.C. :) ). As for Nehemiah, the book completes the history of the restoration from exile in Babylon, which began under Ezra. It also marks the beginning of Daniel's "seventy weeks" and provides historical background for the book of Malachi.
