Subject: shunammite woman |
Bible Note: Greetings again ladymcdade! Sorry, I believe that I had the wrong Shunammite woman! :-) 2 Kings 4:12 "Then he said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." And when he had called her, she stood before him." [NASB] "..The woman, name unknown, whose son Elisha raised from the dead (2 Kin. 4:12, etc.). Later when apparently she had become a widow, after seven years' absence on account of famine, in the land of the Philistines, she returned to find her property in the hands of others. Elisha's intervention secured its restoration (2 Kin. 8:1-6)." (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) "..where was a great woman; of great wealth and riches, of great benevolence and hospitality, and of great grace and piety; that feared sin, as the Targum paraphrases it; a woman of great credit and reputation on all accounts. The Jews say (u) she was the sister of Abishag the Shunammite, and the mother of Iddo the prophet:" (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) "2 Kings 4:8 - Great - For estate, or birth and quality."
