AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Kings 7:26 It was a hand width thick, and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom. It held two thousand baths. |
Bible Question:
Was the volume of the molten sea in Solomon's temple 2000 baths (as stated in 1 Kings 7:26) or 3000 baths (as stated in 2 Chr 4:5)? |
Bible Answer: I believe that it is as simple as different authors' method of estimates. The verses are meant for description, not for a blueprint. For example; perhaps the actual number was 2,613. The author of 1 Kings, perhaps being more conservative, said that it could hold 2,000 baths. The author of 2 Chron may have simply estimated and said it could hold 3,000. This morning, on an NPR news story about the squatters in South Africa, the report said that 20,000 people had settled there. This afternoon, another reporter on the same network, said that 15,000 people had settled there. Who is right? They both are close enough for their intended purpose. |
