Subject: Why is Elijah hidden so suddenly? |
Bible Note: In verse 1 Elijah is making a prophecy; and second, whom the prophecy is really from. Elijah warns the ruling couple that their domain will experience a famine for years and that Baal's cult of deceit would face the challenge of all time. Elijah must of wanted to run through the city and warn the people of God's impending judgement. Elijah must of had great courage too, because the ruling couple were none other than the murderous, God hating Ahab and his wife Jezebel. God, however, had other plans and commanded Elijah to go and hide himself by the brook of Cherith. There could be two reasons for this command. First, it was for Elijah's protection. In 18:10 it states that there was no kingdom or nation that the wrathful Ahab had not searched to find Elijah Second, it was for Elijah's training, to provide time alone with God in "boot camp". God had great works for Elijah to do and to do these works God needed time to train him for these tasks. To rely solely on God and know that God would provide for all his needs.
