Subject: who wrote the book of samuel |
Bible Note: Your answer, that the books of Samuel are anonymous, is the only answer that is not freighted with extreme difficulties. Although Jewish tradition ascribed the writing of the books of Samuel to Samuel himself, this is highly questionable since his death is recorded in 1 Samuel 25:1, before the events regarding David's reign even took place. Nathan and Gad have been mentioned as writers of these books, but these two prophets of the Lord were David's contemporaries and would not have been alive when the book of Samuel was written. The human author of these books is unknown.... The foregoing material has been extracted from John MacArthur's introduction to 1 and 2 Samuel that appears in his study Bible (Word Publishers) --Hank |
