Bible Question: Isn't the Book of Job, the oldest Book of the Bible? and if so, what laws did Job obey, since the 10 commadments haven't been given to Moses Yet? thanks..karen |
Bible Answer: "The date of the events in the book [of Job] and the date of the writing of the book are two different matters. The events may have taken place in a patriarchal society in the second millennium B.C., around the time of Abraham. ...The absence of any reference to the nation Israel or the Mosaic Law suggests a pre-Mosaic date (before 1500 B.C.). " (The Ryrie Study Bible, 1978, Moody Press) Look it up in any study Bible or Bible dictionary you choose. The consensus is that the events in Job probably took place before those recorded in Exodus-Deuteronomy. Of course, the liberals and modernists date the books of the Bible to suit themselves in an effort to deny its divine authorship. |
