Bible Question: What did the Isrealites do to deserve the judgement they received in Egypt? |
Bible Answer: Interesting question, prayon! :) I do not believe that the bondage of the Israelites is a consequence of any particular sin or judgment on the part of God, but I believe that God allowed these conditions so that He could deliver this family, that had now become a nation (Ex. 1:6-7), from this bondage that occurred over the course of time (Ex. 1:8-14). It is interesting to note that the very first time that God calls the nation of Israel "His" people is in Exodus 3:7, and this statement of "ownership" occurs during this time of slavery. He takes these slaves as His own, choosing them from among all the nations of the earth to be His chosen people. It is also interesting to note that not only did the Lord deliver Israel from bondage, but they went from being slaves to the Egyptians to being the most feared nation on earth! (Joshua 2:11; 6:1).
