Bible Question: i am trying to find in the bible where its states to call no man reverend, can anyone help |
Bible Answer: Hi BILLINGCLERK, The problem that you are alluding to is that we are not to call any man "Reverend". I am talking to you in regards to a capitalized Reverend so you may not undersand what I am saying since you do not use capitalization. The problem is dealt with in most churches I believe by having the members say to the pastors,or priests, "Pastor Bob..." or "Father Flanagan", or Reverend Tim", etc. Thus showing that the "Reverend" is part of a title or job description, or earned word of respect; but it is not used alone because that is not who he is. These men are not Reverend, nor Leader, nor Rabbi, nor Teacher, nor Father. These [capitalized] words belong to only One. These words belong to the triune God; the Prophet, Priest, and King. From the heart, Ray P. S. The "holy and reverend" of the King James Version for Psalm 111:9 is translated "awesome", i.e. inspiring reverence, in the NKJ and NASB versions. |
