Bible Question: who was the man in the bible that was born without a father? |
Bible Answer: Hebrews 7:1-3 says: "Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God" was "without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life." (Genesis 14:18-20) Was he literally born "without father, without mother"? Romans 5:12 says, No! "Death spread to all men, because all sinned." Eve "was the mother of all the living." So, Melchizedek was without all these things not just in that the Bible record does not reveal these things, but, more importantly, with respect to his unique priesthood. (Hebrews 5:4-6) So, when verse 3 says he is "without genealogy," it means his "genealogy is not traced from them [the sons of Levi]." (See Hebrews 7:6, 8, 15-17.) |
