Subject: what fruit did eve eat? |
Bible Note: Scripture can be viewed literally, figuratively and prophetically. It is easy to read the literal truth in the Garden of Eden. From Luke 6:43, we learn the truth of our human condition, and can apply it to Genesis. Adam and Eve brought forth the bad fruit of disobedience to God. It also demonstrates they did not love or trust Him with their whole heart, soul, mind and strength. Faith without works is dead. James 2:20. When Satan came to tempt, they did not practice their faith in God, and, so, quite literally, they died. This doctrine of original sin is key to right relationship with God. In Matthew 4:4 Jesus rebukes Satan, quoting Deuteronomy (because He came to fulfill the law and the prophets) - "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." The next time someone offers you the fruit of disobedience to the Lord our God, feed instead upon the Bread of Life. |
