Bible Question:
Hi, Genesis1:26. God said "Let us make man in our images, in our likeness..." This verse conveys to us that God was not alone then, at least one other spirit was with Him. Who was/were with Him? Your comments, please. With love in Christ FytRobert |
Bible Answer: Hi Fyt Robert, If you go to the Ask Questions Action section and type in Genesis 1:26 or 27 you will find that this has been discussed quite a bit. You wrote as a misquote or typo for Genesis 1:26, "God said "Let us make man in our images, in our likeness...". The "images" should be a singular "image". I also like to capitalize the "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness." I know that God is speaking in Genesis 1:26 and I know that man was made in the image of God because of verse 27. I like to think of "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness" as being the words of the Man, Jesus Christ. I compare this phrase with Colossians 1:16, "For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created by Him and for Him." I compare the phrase "Let Us..." with John 1:1,2, "...and the Word was God. This One was in the beginning..." 1) Scriptures that were offered in the other threads for Genesis 1:26 were these, and I offer them (with slashes) for comparisons. Genesis 1:27, "...in the image of God/ He created him; male and female He created them." Colossians 3:9,10, "Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One/ who created him-- 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all." 1 Corinthians 12:24b, "...But God/ has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, that there should be no division in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another... 27 Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it." Ephesians 5:29, "for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ/ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body." Ephesians 4:24, "and put on the new self which in the likeness of God/ has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth." 1 Samuel 2:2, "There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides Thee,/ Nor is there any rock like our God."
