Bible Question: What is the deal with "the Lilith" mentioned in Isaiah 34:13-15? I was told that Lilith is Adams 1st wife, and it can be found in older versions of the Bible. In fact Eve is supposed to be his third wife, so if any one can help me please I could use it. Thank you. |
Bible Answer: Is 34:13 says Thorns will come up in its fortified towers, Nettles and thistles in its fortified cities; It will also be a haunt of jackals And an abode of ostriches. Is 34:14 The desert creatures will meet with the wolves, The hairy goat also will cry to its kind; Yes, the night monster will settle there And will find herself a resting place. Is 34:15 The tree snake will make its nest and lay eggs there, And it will hatch and gather them under its protection. Yes, the hawks will be gathered there, Every one with its kind. Perhaps you might quote the verse for us. I have done a person search and no Lilith is recorded in the Bible, furthermore she is not mentioned anywhere in the text you have quoted. Read Genisis 1:26 through to 3: 24. As for Adam and Eve. In Hebrew Adam is a collective noun meaning mankind, see information note in notes beside the verse here in the search engine, a word also having to do with the Hebrew word for clay adama. The word Eve is Chavvah also from the information search engine here, from an unused word, life, the first woman. Adam and Eve or the Man and the woman as more modern translations refer are meant to be examples out of many of our first parents. As individuals an actual Adam and Eve may not have existed as people with those names. However there were once upon a time the first of all people whom our God created and the Genisis story is that story. The story of mankind's rebellion and falling from grace. The first man of all men may have had numerous wives but this reality is not known to us. What is important for us from these stories of creation is that we absorb the theological truth and that is that our God is creator of all that is. That God created humankind and set them in a perfect world in which they lacked for nothing. Our God also gave them free will and this they chose to use to their and our detriment. Thjough if they had not our Lord Jesus would never have been incarnated and died to set us free.
