Bible Question:
How did satan tempt eve and what did he use? Some have stated down through years it was an apple but is this really in ther Bible or just talk? Please help !!! |
Bible Answer: happy2 I think it important to recognize that ‘temptation’, as we generally think of being tempted, may not apply to Eve in the Garden. Eve’s response to God was - “the serpent deceived me, and I did eat.” [Genesis 3:13] At this point, sin was not present. Both Adam and Eve had not sinned, did not know what sin was and had no reason to be suspicious of the serpent. Being ‘deceived’ usually indicates that we either had no reason to question the situation or that we believe the source as credible and truthful. Eve had no idea what a ‘lie’ was, so the truthfulness of what she was being told appears never to have been in doubt. What the Apostle Paul wrote “as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness” [2 Corinthians 11:3], tends to confirm that Eve was an unsuspecting target of the serpent. However, Paul also indicates that Eve is not guiltless - “but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression [1 Timothy 2:14]. Yet sin was charged to Adam - “as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin” [Romans 5:12] - and not to Eve. Why? Eve was deceived, Adam was not. Adam, knowing that God had said not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, ate without any argument. Eve did make an argument for obedience to God, even though she faltered. Here, I believe, is the reason that salvation comes in believing - “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved [Acts 16:31]. The opening of the way into sin did not come when they ate of the tree, it came when Eve believed Satan. All that Jesus did for us is because of sin, but the way to Salvation beings by believing Jesus. Jesus is Lord of all. Just some added thoughts. As the others have already said, the Bible refers only to ‘fruit of the tree.’ Paul [References - NASB Study Bible, Zondervan Publishing House] |
