NASB | 2 Samuel 21:1 Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the presence of the LORD. And the LORD said, "It is for Saul and his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Samuel 21:1 There was famine in the days of David for three consecutive years; and David sought the presence (face) of the LORD [asking the reason]. The LORD replied, "It is because of Saul and his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death." |
Bible Question: I am questioning why this famine didnt occur during Saul's reign since it was his sin? This wasnt answered in our Bible study. Is there any background or passage that answers this? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Briva... Sin never only effects ourselves. It effects everyone around us. Remember: the last thing any of us should want from God is for Him to be "fair." (The most fair doctrine in the Scripture is the doctrine of hell.) What we want and crave from Him, is mercy and grace. God was both merciful and gracious that He did not expend upon Israel what they rightfully deserved. This famine was a drop in the bucket. In Him, Doc |
