Bible Question:
Why do so many people see this verse as an assurance that babies go to heaven when they die? I would love for this to be true. But this is not what this verse is saying. To quote the Nelson Study Bible Commentators: "The child could not return to life, but David would someday join his son in death." This seem to be a more accurate interpretation. Does anyone else agree? STUDENT7300 |
Bible Answer: STUDENT7300 Then the question has to be asked what is death? To the faithful it is laying down this earth body and joining with the Lord in Heaven. Since the Bible declares David's rigtheousness we must assume upon his death he went to Abraham's bosom (hades) where Jesus upon his death came and lead captivity captive (Eph. 4:8) to Heaven. Therefore if David said he was going to be with his son, and the Bible declares David righteous, and therefore now in heaven, we must also assume his son is there also. While there are those that disagree I believe we are born with a sin nature, not with sin. I also beleive we are only held accountable for what sin we intentionally commit. Therefore a baby can not be held accountable. I think this is what Jesus was saying in his example of Matt. 18:1-4, Mark 10:14 and Mark 9:36-37. |
