AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 6:4 There were Nephilim (men of stature, notorious men) on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God lived with the daughters of men, and they gave birth to their children. These were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown (great reputation, fame). [Num 13:33] |
Bible Question: Genesis 6:4 Is the sons of God in this verse talking about angels? If so, is it safe to say that they are the fallen angels? I am trying to help teach a fella where I work at, and he asked this question. Praise the Lord, michael |
Bible Answer: My limited understanding of the verses you are referring to (Genesis 6:1-4) is that there are two accepted interpretations to these verses. The first, is that 'the sons of God' refers to fallen angels. Most will use Job 1:6 and 2:1 to help support this argument. Also, Jude 6,7 is used to give further proof. The other view is that 'the sons of God' were descendants of Seth and they married daughters of Cain. Matthew 22:30 is given as proof for this argument. To be honest with you, I haven't study it enough to really make my own decision on which I feel is correct. I just know enough that there are predominately to different view points on this passage of scriptures. Hope that helps some. Maybe someone that has study the topic more can give more insight. Brad |
