Subject: From Adam and Eve to millions of people |
Bible Note: mr.b: When I was a kid someone asked me whether I'd rather have a penny a day doubled every day for a month, or whether instead I'd rather have a lump sum of a thousand dollars. I got tricked, of course, and opted for the thousand dollars, which I never got, by the way. ..... Think how rich Adam would be today if he had invested a single dollar in Eden National Bank bearing 5 per cent interest a year compounded semi-annually. ..... Concerning the possibilities of the number of Adam's descendents by the time of his death at age 930. I majored in English, not mathematics, but 930 years is a long time to sow seed, both the seed of Adam and of his descendents. If we use the figure of, say, 30 years to represent one generation, we are looking at 31 generations by the time Adam died. If Adam and Eve produced 10 children (besides Abel) and half of them produced 10 children apiece, and half of that generation produced another 10 children apiece, Adam and Eve would have had 1250 great grandchilden, and that's with using up only 3 generations with 28 more to go! Someone better versed in math will have to take it from here, but it's much like your illustration of the doubled penny. By the time Adam and Eve gave up the ghost, I wouldn't be surprised that there was quite a crowd at the funeral. --Hank |
