NASB | Genesis 49:4 "Uncontrolled as water, you shall not have preeminence, Because you went up to your father's bed; Then you defiled it --he went up to my couch. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 49:4 "But unstable and reckless and boiling over like water [in sinful lust], you shall not excel or have the preeminence [of the firstborn], Because you went up to your father's bed [with Bilhah]; You defiled it--he went up to my couch. [Gen 35:22] |
Bible Question: Is it biblical for a man to marry woman whose husband is dead? |
Bible Answer: AMPLIFIED 1 Timothy 5:14 SO I WOULD HAVE YOUNGER [WIDOWS] MARRY, bear children, guide the household, [and] not give opponents of the faith occasion for slander or reproach. (Emphasis added.) How could younger (or any) widows get married, if the Bible prohibited men from marrying widows? It is OK as long as a man does not marry a woman whose husband is NOT dead. |
