NASB | Genesis 43:33 Now they were seated before him, the firstborn according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth, and the men looked at one another in astonishment. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 43:33 Now Joseph's brothers were seated [by the steward] before him [in the order of their birth]--the firstborn according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth; and the men looked at one another in astonishment [because so much was known about them]. |
Bible Question: why did joseph set his brother from the olest to the youngest |
Bible Answer: Dear Auntie, The Bible doesn't specifically tell us why he did this. However, we can see from other parts of the story that Joseph was trying to test his brothers to see if they had turned from their evil ways. I believe that this was just another way for him to psychologically put more stress on them to see if it changed their behavior. He would later do something similar to this when he would have his silver cup put into Benjamin's sack. I hope this helps. Ocelot |
