NASB	Genesis 38:9 Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother.
AMPLIFIED 2015	Genesis 38:9 Onan knew that the child (heir) would not be his [but his dead brother's]; so whenever he lay with his brother's widow, he spilled his seed on the ground [to prevent conception], so that he would not give a child to his brother.

Bible Question (short): spare the rod, spoil the child

Question (full): I have always heard it preached when I was a little girl and I thought that there was a scripture about it, that it is better to spill your seed in the belly of a whore, than on the ground...Is there a scripture that refers to this in the King James Bible or any other bible? Thanks for your help....I was talking to a friend of mine, and they said that they had heard the preachers preach on this but I was a little girl remembering what the preacher said about this, but am not able to find any scriptures on this....
