NASB Genesis 37:1 Now Jacob lived in the land where his father had sojourned, in the land of Canaan.
AMPLIFIED 2015 Genesis 37:1 So Jacob (Israel) lived in the land where his father [Isaac] had been a stranger (sojourner, resident alien), in the land of Canaan.

Bible Answer:  Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers. (Genesis 37)
There was a famine in the land that was revealed in Pharoh's dream, by Joseph. (Genesis 41)
Jacob sends his son's to Egypt for grain because of the famine. (Genesis 42)
