NASB | Genesis 29:17 And Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful of form and face. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 29:17 Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and appearance. |
Bible Question: The New International Version refers to Leah's eyes as lovely. Another version refers to them as pretty. The NASB refers to them as weak. Why all the differences? What were they? |
Bible Answer: Gen 29:16 (Now Laban had two daughters; the older one was named Leah, and the younger one Rachel. 29:17 Leah's eyes were tender, but Rachel had a lovely figure and beautiful appearance.) New English Translation (http://www.netbible.com) Translator's note: Heb "and the eyes of Leah were tender."...It is not clear what is meant by "tender" (or "delicate") eyes. The expression may mean she had appealing eyes (cf. NAB, NRSV, NLT), though some suggest that they were plain, not having the brightness normally expected. Either way, she did not measure up to her gorgeous sister. |
