AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 2:7 then the LORD God formed [that is, created the body of] man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being [an individual complete in body and spirit]. [1 Cor 15:45-49] |
Bible Question: I have heard somewhere that the Holy Spirit was actually instilled in us through God breathing life into us at creation therefore our spiritual life may be in proper balance as we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our life. However in Acts, it describes Pentecost as a rush of wind and and tongues of fire fulled all those with the Holy Spirit. Can anyone explain? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Joy... No, the Holy Spirit does not come to dwell within a person until the benefits of the New Covenant are realized. That took place after the Resurrection of Christ, at Pentecost in Acts 2. Upon man's creation, he himself became a living soul as a very specific act of God (Genesis 2:7 and Genesis 2:22). But the spirit created to indwell men was itself a created thing. (Among theologians there are several views as to how each new generation receives a soul: creationism, traducianism, and pre-existentialism. Perhaps that is for a future discussion.) In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit comes upon men -- whether saved or not -- in effecting God's eternal purpose. After Pentecost, the Holy Spirit comes to indwell believers. In Him, Doc |
