Bible Note: Dear Brother Hank, Although that question has come to be known as a something silly and pointless, its history shows it to be quite the contrary. It dates back to Middle Ages. The proper answer to "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" is an infinite number. If it is a finite number, than angels would necessarily have to have a corporeal component. Thus, the question dealt with the very nature of the distinction between things of the physical realms and things of the spiritual realms. I can't seem to lay my finger on the notes I took on it, but the last time I looked it was a very serious matter. I seem to recall that it arose as a consequence of Joan of Arc and the question of the origin of her "voices." After you read about the kinds of things her "angels" told her, you can readily discern their origin! See what weird things you can dredge up from a mind that is mostly silted up anyway? :-) In Him, Doc |
