Bible Question:
Issac is indeed the promised son for Abraham. But cetainly he was not the only son when God called Abraham for the sacrifice. This is the second time that I am asking this question and nobody is replying. I 10000 percent belive that Bible can never be wrong. please give me an answer. |
Bible Answer: Greetings 4 Square! The word used in Genesis 22:2 has several possible meanings. 'yahid' can mean the only child actuall born, but it can also mean 'unique' or 'beloved' as well. The usuage here is similiar to the usuage of 'monogenes' in the New Testament, where Christ is not described as a literal child born, but as unique and beloved. Thus, Issac was 'yahid' in the sense of the love that his parents had for him and in the sense that he was the unique fulfillment of God's promised to Abraham, but not in the sense that Abraham had no other children. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
