AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 15:6 Then Abram believed in (affirmed, trusted in, relied on, remained steadfast to) the LORD; and He counted (credited) it to him as righteousness (doing right in regard to God and man). [Rom 4:3, 18-22; Gal 3:6; James 2:23] |
Bible Question: I am doing a bible study on Ephesians and we are working on 2:11-22. A question in the book is "How could a non-Jew have been saved before Christ's death?" (I am not sure if I supposed to put the author's name or not.) Is there a way to answer that question scripturally? It seems that it is one of those questions we will not know until heaven. Thanks! |
Bible Answer: Hello lizroy, Actually, the answer is that they were saved just like we are today--by faith. Consider two OT verses: Gen 15:6 (ESV) And [Abram] believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. Hab 2:4 (ESV) Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith. Paul uses both of these verses in Romans in explaining salvation. They were just as applicable to the Jews. The only difference was the object of that faith, and even that was not different. The OT believer trusted in God's word. The NT believer also trusts in God's word--the word incarnate, our Lord Jesus Christ. Steve |
