Subject: Age of earth according to bible? |
Bible Note: alanh: Where did you find the age of the earth mentioned in "the biblical record"? I've never been able to find it in Scripture -- not even in Hezekiah 4:2 or Phillips 66:1. It simply isn't there. Genealogical records will not enable us to pinpoint the age of the earth with anything even approaching accuracy for the simple reason that generations are frequently skipped over in lists. One thing we don't know about creation. We do not know the date when God made it all happen. Not from Scripture. Not from science. Two things we do know about creation. (1) Who did it: God. (2) How He did it: He spoke the universe into being. He created it out of nothing: ex nihilo. Man today still knows no more about creation than God revealed of it in the opening lines of Genesis and in a few other passages of Scripture. All that man has been able to do has been to concoct a never-ending series of fancy theories about it, but that's all they are: fancy theories with no real answers. The theories tend to breed more questions than answers, being based on speculation and short -- yea, bereft -- of fact. ...... It has been asked, "Which is more important: to know the age of rocks or the Rock of Ages? Good question, don't you think? --Hank |
