Bible Question: HOW IS GOD'S GOODNESS REVEALED IN HIS CREATION GENESIS 1 VS. 29? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Tamu Lavette, You asked, "HOW IS GOD'S GOODNESS REVEALED IN HIS CREATION GENESIS 1 VS. 29?" Genesis 1:29 "Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;" God gave provision to mankind by giving them every seed-bearing plant and tree with fruit to eat for food. Now, this passage is commonly understood to mean that man could only eat the plants and fruit bearing trees, but this 'fallacy by noninclusion' does not necessarily mean that man was restrained only to eating plants. The NET Bible has a good note here: "G.J. Wenham (Genesis [WBC], 1:34) points out that there is nothing in the passage that prohibits the man and the woman from eating meat. He suggests that eating meat came after the fall. Gen. 9:3 may then ratify the postfall practice of eating meat rather than inaugurate the practice, as is often understood." Blessings to you, Makarios |
