NASB | Genesis 1:26 ¶ Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 1:26 ¶ Then God said, "Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth." [Ps 104:30; Heb 1:2; 11:3] |
Bible Question:
It's probably the single most important concept in any of the Abrahamic religions: there is only one God. At least that's what God says, over and over. I doubt I have to quote any scripture to convince people of that. But there are times when God himself seems to indicate that there are more. For instance, in Genesis 3, after Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit, God says "Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil" Gen 3:22. I checked numerous translations, and they all say "us," plural. What is God talking about? Any ideas? |
Bible Answer: Dear MichaelN, You may check for the cross reference and the 1st verse (Genesis 1:26) bearing the trinitarian concept (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) in the Bible. ***************** "There is but one only living and true God, who is infinite in being and perfection, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions, immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, most wise, most holy, most free, most absolute, working all things according to the counsel of his own immutable and most righteous will, for his own glory, most loving, gracious, merciful, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin; the rewarder of them that diligently seek him; and withal most just and terrible in his judgments; hating all sin; and who will by no means clear the guilty." "In the unity of the Godhead there be three Persons of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son." ---- Westminster Confession (1647 A.D) Shalom Azure |
