Bible Question:
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY? I WAS ALL WAS TOLD THAT THIS MEANS HAVING SEX AND CHILDREN. BUT SOME STATEMENTS IN THE BIBLE STATE SOMETHING ELSE. LIKE Psalms 128:3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.Jeremiah 23:3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Pharoah, Here is a bit of commentary on Genesis 1:22.. "1:22 Be fruitful and multiply. God's benediction on living things that inhabit the water and that fly in the air. By His blessing they flourish and fill both realms with life ... God's rule over His created realm promotes and blesses life." (1) "Genesis 1:22 And God (r) blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. (r) That is, by the virtue of his word he gave power to his creatures to reproduce." (2) I gather from this verse that the Lord is granting us the ability and authority to multiply and to use the earth for our sustenance and habitation. We must keep in mind that God speaks to all creation in this way, to be "fruitful and multiply", and not just the humans (v. 28).
