Bible Question: can someone give me insight to Luke 23:43 and 16:23 were Hades was or is and if that is were jesus went for the 3 days he was in the grave? |
Bible Answer: The commonly accepted interpretation of Luke 23:42-43 is that Jesus descended into Abraham's Bosom" (see Luke 16:22-24). However this is questionable because all translations of the word 'Paradise' in the New Covenant depict Paradise as meaning Heaven.See 2 Cor.12:1-4, and Rev. 2:7. Secondly, Luke was very aware of Abraham's Bosom through Jesus' teaching, but nowhere in Jesus' teaching did He refer to this place as Paradise. Thirdly, Ephesians 4:8-10 which is commonly used to prove that Paradise was Abraham's bosom in that Jesus 'led captivity captive' bringing forth the captive righteous dead at His resurrection. While I agree scripture teaches that there was a resurrection, I believe this verse states this. In Psalm 68:18 the Psalmist uses this term to state that the captivity was taken captive.. Jesus captors were taken captive.. In context, this verse depicts a battle in which Jesus the Christ won and rewarded or gave gifts to men. This is what a victorious leader would do distributing the 'spoil' among the people. Who was Jesus' captors led captive by Him victorously? Jesus' foes were (Col 2:15 and 2 Peter 2:4) the devl, death, the curse, and sin. Now no doubt Satan has not been 'bound' but is stil free t roam and deceive, but he no longer holds captive all mankind under the curse..only those who have not accepted Jesus' deliverance from his kingdom. But as soon as a man chooses to accept Jesus as saviour and Lord, Satan has no authority to restrain them. Col 1:12-14 So where would Jesus Have been? Acts 2:22-28 Research the word Hell and Hades in the New Covenant. Compare the use of these words in context. You will not find them used anywhere in reference to Abraham's Bosom or the holding place of the righteous dead. Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. According to Strong's concordance, the word 'hell' in all three verses is the same. Notice in Luke 16 hell is diferentiated from Abraham's bosom? But search it for yourself. The truth is available to all of us through the teaching and revelation of the Holy Spirit. Als, I reccomend a word search. Just tye in Jesus in hell and you wil receive a wealth of postings.
